Kickstart Project Attempts To Bring Public Transit Maps Back to iPhone




With iOS 6 Apple is dropping Google Maps from the iPhone and consequently removing public transportation maps from the built-in maps application on the handset as well.

Intrigal for many city-dwellers to get around, the company OpenPlans has started a Kickstarter project to help fund a solution.

Called OpenTripPlanner, the open-source application will offer a number of features that were not available in Google Maps. Directions can be made using different transit methods ?- such as walking, biking, public transit and bike-share ? and will find the fastest and efficient way to your destination.
